Overview

Starting an annual tradition counting down to the Orange Bowl Festival and Game, the Orange Bowl Kicks for Kids programs celebrates the Orange Bowl’s community-focused mission and the excitement associated with the college football season.  

Partnering with the YMCA of Greater Miami, the Orange Bowl "Kicks for Kids" program will provide South Florida children with donated new or gently used athletic footwear so that every child can have an opportunity to participate in youth sports.

Background and Goal

In a recent survey by the Physical Education for Life group and the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, 93 percent of parents said youth sports promoted personal growth and 84 percent said organized athletics nurtured good moral behavior.

To further support youth sports in South Florida, the Orange Bowl Committee launched the "Kicks for Kids" program on September 14, 2011 at Sun Life Stadium, donating the first 100 pairs of shoes to children from local YMCA programs. 

It is the Orange Bowl Committee’s goal to collect 1,000 pairs of shoes by the 2012 Discover Orange Bowl on January 4, 2012.  Together, we can work to ensure every local child has a good pair of sneakers or cleats so they can participate and reap the rewards of sports and exercise.

Ongoing Efforts

 The Orange Bowl is working with strategic partners to place shoe collection boxes at various locations throughout South Florida.  We currently have collection boxes at the following locations:
