2010 FEDEX ORANGE BOWL TICKETS ON-SALE

Miami Lakes, FL (www.orangebowl.org) – The Orange Bowl Committee (OBC) have made single game tickets to two of its premiere events, the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl and 16th Annual MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic, available for purchase. These single-event tickets go on-sale exclusively through the Committee’s website at www.orangebowl.org or by calling the OBC Ticket Office at (305) 341-4701.

The 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl, the crown jewel of the world renowned Orange Bowl Festival, kicks-off from Land Shark Stadium on January 5, 2010 at 8 p.m. The annual football classic will feature the first pick from among the eligible at-large teams against the ACC Champion.

The last nine FedEx Orange Bowls have sold out, not including last year’s Land Shark Stadium record crowd of 78,468 that witnessed the FedEx BCS National Championship. This year’s game is sure to be one of college football’s best bowl matchups as four ACC teams entered the year in the top 25 of USA Today preseason coaches poll. Virginia Tech (#7), Georgia Tech (#15), Florida State (# 19) and North Carolina (#20) lead the way as the ACC looks to continue its status as one of the nation’s strongest.

Tickets for the 16th Annual MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic will also be made available for purchase Saturday. The Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes and Richmond Spiders—all of which won at least 19 games and qualified for post-season play in 2008-09--will be joined by the FAU Owls for the annual double header, this year held on December 19 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL.

The Gators, appearing in the Classic for the ninth time in 10 years, are coming off an appearance in the NIT quarterfinals where they fell to eventual champion Penn State, 71-62, and are just two years removed from winning back-to-back NCAA championships. Florida will take on a Richmond team that finished last season with 20 wins for the 16th time in school history and the most victories for a Spider team since the 2003-04 team also won 20 games. The Spiders reached the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) a year ago, recording the school’s 16th postseason appearance and second in a row.

The Hurricanes will be back at the Classic after taking a one year hiatus last season. Miami, which had participated in the previous 14 Classics, looks to build on its recent success that has earned them four postseason appearances in the last five years. The 2008-09 Hurricanes won 19 games and went 1-1 in the NIT after an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2007-08. The FAU Owls will look to improve under second year coach Mike Jarvis, one of the nation’s elite college basketball coaches. Jarvis is looking to duplicate his previous accomplishments as head coach, leading three different programs into the NCAA Tournament during his previous stops.
