Memphis’ La'Andre Thomas is this week’s nominee for the 2019 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Thomas, a redshirt sophomore defensive back, overcame a significant shoulder injury and numerous childhood obstacles to become a defensive staple for the Tigers.

The Orange Bowl Youth Football League (OBYFA) presented by Metro by T-Mobile will visit two South Florida parks this Saturday. This week’s parks will be hosting their league Super Bowls and are representatives of the National Youth Football League and the Florida Youth Football League. The program recognizes select youth football parks across South Florida each Saturday during the fall as part of its continuous community engagement and support.

The Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl’s participating conferences – Conference USA and the Mid-American Conference – have each made donations of $25,000 to Hurricane Dorian relief efforts, in addition to a $25,000 donation from a neighboring bowl game in Miami – the Capital One Orange Bowl.

Minnesota's Casey O'Brien is this week's nominee for the 2019 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. O-Brien, a redshirt sophomore walk-on holder, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma when he was 13. He has survived it four times.

Game times for the 26th annual Metro by T-Mobile Orange Bowl Basketball Classic will be Noon and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 21 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. All four teams in this year's Classic played in post-season tournaments a year ago; three in the NCAA Tournament.

Dr. Eduardo Padrón, one of the nation’s most respected leaders of higher education and Past President of Miami Dade College, will receive the Keith Tribble Community Service Excellence Award at the Orange Bowl Food & Wine Celebration presented by Florida Blue on Friday, September 20 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.

The Orange Bowl Food & Wine Celebration pres. by Florida Blue will take place on Friday, September 20 at the Broward County Convention Center. Over 30 of South Florida’s top restaurants and chefs from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties will donate their time and talents to provide food tastings & pairings for attendees to enjoy. This is the Orange Bowl’s signature fundraiser event and proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish Southern Florida, Special Olympics Florida and the Orange Bowl Leadership Academy​

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature over 30 vendors who will be providing a variety of products, services and health and fitness essentials for families in attendance. Attendees will enjoy a variety of food trucks as well as activities including music, games, bounce houses, arts and crafts, caricaturists and face painting.

College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl is Primary Economic Driver.

The Orange Bowl will host a series of Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance (OBYFA) Football Clinics presented by Metro by T-Mobile in partnership with Florida International University and Florida Atlantic University this summer. In addition, the Orange Bowl will assist the University of Miami coaches with two of their football camps.

The Orange Bowl Committee announced Monday night that Christopher Volpe, a student-athlete from Jupiter High School, is the second recipient of the Orange Bowl Beigel-Feis-Hixon Valor Award. Volpe, who was nominated for the award by his track coach, was diagnosed with Asperger’s after his freshman year of high school and recently led his cross-country team to its first state championship appearance in 17 years while also excelling academically.

The Orange Bowl Committee held elections for its 2019-20 board of directors and officers during its February monthly membership meeting.

The Orange Bowl Committee introduced Chris Evert and Earl H. “Butch” Buchholz as the inaugural inductees of the Orange Bowl Tennis Hall of Fame during a ceremony prior to the March 28 evening session of the Miami Open at Hard Rock Stadium.

The Orange Bowl, in association with the National Football Foundation (NFF), and its local chapters, will host the third annual Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase presented by Cleveland Clinic Florida. The free one-day event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens.

SUNY Cortland linebacker Kyle Richard is the winner of the 2018 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Richard, a 6-foot, 230-pound senior has become an outspoken advocate for victims of sexual assault and bystander intervention after being shot twice in the summer of 2017 while interrupting a sexual assault.

The Orange Bowl Committee and Palm Beach County will announce the opening of Orange Bowl Field at Glades Pioneer Park in Belle Glade, Fla. The opening celebration, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Wednesday, December 19 at 4:00 p.m. Attendees at the free opening celebration will enjoy activities for the entire family including, kids’ games, bounce houses, food and drinks and much more.

Portland State’s Isaiah Woods is this week’s nominee for the 2018 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Woods, a junior, has been public about his battle with depression, helping to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and football.

Indiana’s Matt Stauder is this week’s nominee for the 2018 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Stauder, a senior manager, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the spring, less than a year after losing his father to a heart attack.

Oklahoma’s Tre Brown is this week’s nominee for the 2018 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Brown, a sophomore cornerback, lost his mother Oct. 14 but has not missed a game for the Sooners.

Houston’s Marquez Stevenson is this week’s nominee for the 2018 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Stevenson, a redshirt sophomore, has overcome three injuries from his first two college seasons to become the Cougars’ leading receiver. “It’s been a painful journey,” Stevenson told the Houston Chronicle. “I knew at the end of the road there was some light. I’m blessed and grateful. I know how fast this game can be taken away from you.”

Virginia Tech’s Caleb Farley is this week’s nominee for the 2018 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Farley, a redshirt freshman, lost his mother, Robin, to cancer in January, after missing the 2017 campaign with a knee injury.

Notre Dame’s Nic Weishar is this week’s nominee for the 2018 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Weishar, a fifth-year tight end who lost his brother Andrew in 2012 to cancer, helped launch a foundation to bring joy and ease the financial burden felt by families battling cancer.

Kentucky’s John Schlarman is the first weekly nominee for the 2018 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Schlarman, the sixth-year Wildcats offensive line coach, has coached through chemotherapy treatments for an undisclosed form of cancer and was given a game ball following Saturday’s win over Florida, the program’s first triumph over the Gators since 1986.

The sixth annual Orange Bowl Family Fun & Fit Day presented by Sunshine Health will be held on Sat., Aug. 4 at 10:00 a.m., at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex in Miami Gardens.

The Orange Bowl is partnering with Sports Radio 560 WQAM for the fourth consecutive year and ESPN West Palm (106.3 FM) for the third consecutive year to broadcast the “Capital One Orange Bowl Media Tour presented by The Hearth Insurance Group.”

Earnie Seiler, the “Mad Genius” who shaped the Orange Bowl through its first 40 years of existence, will be honored with the Football Bowl Association’s (FBA) Legacy Award for 2018. Seiler will join Fred Digby and Warren Miller of the Sugar Bowl, and Field Scovill of the Cotton Bowl as this year’s honorees.​

Fort Lauderdale Mayor John P. (Jack) Seiler was elected as Second Vice Chair of the Orange Bowl Committee at the organization’s annual elections in February. Seiler is a three-time Mayor, who will complete his third and final term (by law) when a new Mayor is sworn in on March 20, 2018.

Miami-South Florida has been announced as the site for the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship, it was announced today by the College Football Playoff. This will be the community’s first national championship game under the College Football Playoff, but its 21st overall. The 20 previous national championship games were hosted by the Orange Bowl Committee, most recently, the 2013 BCS National Championship Game between Alabama and Notre Dame.

Virginia Tech’s Sean Savoy is this week’s nominee for the 2017 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Savoy, a freshman wide receiver, started in the Hokies’ win Saturday against North Carolina, their first game after Savoy’s brother, Omar Rodgers, was shot and killed.

The Orange Bowl has partnered with Florida Prepaid College Plans to bring the Orange Bowl Creative Art Contest program to schools in South Florida. The theme for this year’s Orange Bowl Creative Art Contest is “First Down to a Healthy Life.”

Dixon, a redshirt junior safety, overcame an unstable family situation in Miami, along with personal health issues, to become an All-Big Ten performer for the Badgers. Dixon had a brother convicted of attempted murder, and he was placed in foster care as his mother struggled to provide for the family.​

The Orange Bowl Committee announced Wednesday efforts to assist those affected by Hurricane Irma in South Florida by contributing $65,000, representing $1 dollar for every ticket available for the 2017 Capital One Orange Bowl, towards various organizations.

Game times for the 24rd annual MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic will be 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. The first game will feature the Oklahoma State Cowboys against the Florida State Seminoles, followed by the Clemson Tigers against the Florida Gators. All four teams appeared in post-season action a year ago.

Sherels suffered through a life-threatening intestinal illness in August that required multiple surgeries. The Golden Gophers’ linebackers coach had more than 18 feet of his small intestine removed, in addition to the right side of his colon and his transverse colon removed.

Arizona State’s Tim White is this week’s nominee for the 2016 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. While growing up, White spent time sleeping in cars, homeless shelters and in other less-than-ideal environments across the Los Angeles and Las Vegas area, as his father worked a number of different jobs to support White and his eight brothers and sisters.

UCF’s Shaquem Griffin is this week’s nominee for the 2016 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Griffin has played football with one hand since he was 4 years old, as doctors amputated his left hand then as a result of amniotic band syndrome, a congenital birth defect. The 6-foot-1, 213-pound linebacker has enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Knights, as he leads the American Athletic Conference in sacks (8.5) and is third in tackles for loss (12).

Hawai‘i’s Makani Kema-Kaleiwahea is this week’s nominee for the 2016 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Kema-Kaleiwahea grew up on O‘ahu as the oldest in an adoptive family of six kids. After receiving a football scholarship to the University of Arizona, his family followed him to Tucson, Ariz. Soon after, at the age of 18, he learned his five siblings were in an abusive environment and he became their caregiver, even though he was a full-time student-athlete.

Game times for the 23rd annual MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic will be 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. The first game will feature the Manhattan College Jaspers against the Florida State Seminoles, followed by the Charlotte 49ers against the Florida Gators.

Oklahoma State’s Vincent Taylor is this week’s nominee for the 2016 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Taylor and his family lost their home 11 years ago in Hurricane Katrina, forcing them to relocate to San Antonio. The Taylors had initially stayed back in New Orleans for about a week after the hurricane hit, and during that time the then-10-year-old Taylor witnessed a number of gruesome images.

TCU’s Caylin Moore is this week’s nominee for the 2016 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Moore, a redshirt senior safety, has overcome a number of obstacles in earning an academic scholarship at TCU, from growing up in inner-city Los Angeles and being homeless during his youth, to having a father who is in prison for life and a mother who was a victim of domestic abuse and sexual assault.​

The 23rd annual MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic will once again feature the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles, hosting the Charlotte 49ers and Manhattan College Jaspers, respectively, on December 17 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. Miami offensive lineman Hunter Knighton is the winner of the 2015 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Knighton, a 6-foot-6, 300-pound redshirt sophomore, returned to action for the Hurricanes this season less than 19 months after suffering a heat stroke that nearly killed him.

No. 1 Clemson and No. 4 Oklahoma are set to meet in the 2015 College Football Playoff (CFP) Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 31, 2015, at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., at 4p.m. ET.

Colorado State’s Justin Hansen is this year’s final nominee for the 2015 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Hansen, a redshirt senior defensive lineman, has Asperger’s, a developmental disorder that affects one’s ability to socialize communicate effectively.

Iowa State’s Mitchell Meyers is this week’s nominee for the 2015 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Meyers, a redshirt junior defensive end, is receiving radiation treatment in Houston for Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Virginia’s Demetrious Nicholson is this week’s nominee for the 2015 Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Nicholson, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback from Virginia Beach, Va., was born to Elizabeth Nicholson, who had Demetrious when she was 12. Nicholson also overcame the deaths of his younger sister, Shaquanda, and of his great-grandmother, Nita Superales, who had taken the lead in raising him.

The Orange Bowl Committee (OBC) has donated $50,000 to the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers program – a figure that has been matched by the CFP Foundation – for funding individual classroom projects of Miami-Dade and Broward County public school teachers.

Toledo’s Cheatham Norrils is this week’s nominee for the 2015 Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Norrils, a 6-foot, 195-pound cornerback from Toledo, Ohio, missed the entire 2014 season after contracting pneumonia and a viral infection in the summer.

Penn State’s Anthony Zettel is this week’s nominee for the 2015 Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Zettel, a 6-foot-4, 284-pound defensive tackle from West Branch, Mich., earned Big Ten defensive player of the week honors for his performance Saturday, one day after the loss of his father, Terry, 46, who died after a 19-month battle with stage-four cancer.

Boston College’s Bobby Swigert is the first weekly nominee for the 2015 Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Swigert, a 6-foot, 199-pound sixth-year senior wide receiver from Louisville, Ky., underwent 11 knee surgeries after severely injuring his right knee in a Nov. 2012 game against Notre Dame.

The Orange Bowl Committee is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s 1965 National Championship season that concluded with a victory over Nebraska in the 1966 Orange Bowl. The win clinched Alabama’s eighth National Championship and was the programs second straight national title and Orange Bowl berth.

The Orange Bowl Committee is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ appearance in the 1966 Orange Bowl. The Cornhuskers fell to an Alabama team who clinched a National Championship with a 39-28 win.
