ORANGE BOWL COMMITTEE WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS
Miami Lakes, FL (www.orangebowl.org) – The Orange Bowl Committee officially welcomed 12 new Active Members for the 2021-22 year. These individuals were elected at the March Membership Meeting. With these additions, the Orange Bowl Committee now consists of 380 members.
The new class will play an integral role as the Orange Bowl will host the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 31, 2021, the 27th annual Orange Bowl Basketball Classic in December 2021, as well as numerous other sporting events and community activities throughout South Florida.
New Active Members
Jose Felix Diaz – Executive Vice President, Ballard Partners / Partner - Panza Maurer Law Firm
Jose is currently Executive Vice President and Managing Shareholder for Miami of Ballard Partners, a full-service government affairs firm where he helps guide efforts in the state of Florida, Miami-Dade and in the continued expansion into Latin America. He also serves as a Partner at the Law Firm of Panza, Maurer and Maynard, PA, where he heads the firm’s Miami office and its Miami local procurement, land use and government affairs practice. In 2010, Jose ran for the Florida House of Representatives and won four consecutive elections as a State Representative for District 115 and 116. Jose earned his Bachelor of Arts in English & Political Science from the University of Miami and his Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School. He currently resides in Miami with his wife, Therese and three children.
Dr. Joe Fernandez, M.D. – President & Founder – Miami Sports Medicine / Joseph I. Fernandez, M.D., P.A.
As President & Founder of Miami Sports Medicine, Dr. Joe Fernandez is the current Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Baptist Hospital, Chairman of the Orthopedic Department Advisory Committee, a member of the Baptist Hospital Medical Executive Committee and a member of the Christopher Columbus High School Executive Board. Dr. Fernandez is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and was also a Captain in the United States Army Medical Reserve from 1988-2000. He received his Bachelor’s from Tulane University and his M.D. from Tulane University School of Medicine, and currently lives in Miami with his wife Margie and has four children.
John Fumagalli – President, Central Region - Northern Trust
John is in his 32nd year with Northern Trust having held various positions in Chicago, St. Louis, Naples and now Miami, responsible for managing the company’s investment management, trust and estate planning, private and business banking and financial consulting business. He is currently on the Board of Trustees Investment Committee for Barry University and a Board Member for PAMM and New World Symphony, and was a Past Foundation Board Chairman for Florida Gulf Coast University. John was chosen as part of Florida Trend Magazine’s 500 Most Influential Business People in Florida for three consecutive years from 2018-2020 and was named the Apogee Award Winner as a top leader in South Florida Business in 2019. John received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross and M.B.A. from Northern University. He lives in Pinecrest with his with Sara and four children, and is also the godfather to his nephew Troy Fumagalli, the 2017 Big Ten tight end of the year while playing for the University of Wisconsin and played in the Capital One Orange Bowl against the University of Miami.
Jason Goldstrich – Senior Portfolio Manager, Financial Advisor - Morgan Stanley
Since graduating from the full-time M.B.A. program at the University of Southern California in 2015, Jason joined the Bermont/Carlin Investment Advisory Group at Morgan Stanley as a junior partner. His team advises and provides financial management services for both families and institutions. Jason is an Advisor to the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) at the business school at the University of Miami and mentors graduating seniors to assist them in connecting with potential employment opportunities. He is currently a United Way Young Leader, a FIDF Young Leadership Board Member, a KaBOOM! volunteer and a Lotus House Shelter Volunteer and Supporter. Jason received his Bachelor’s in Finance at the University of Florida and currently lives in Coral Gables with his wife Katie.
Alina T. Hudak – Assistant City Manager – City of Miami Beach
Alina is responsible for overseeing and providing leadership to a large portfolio of departments within the City of Miami Beach, including Capital Improvement Projects, Environment and Sustainability, Housing and Community Services, Marketing and Communications, Public Works and Transportation and Mobility. She is also directly responsible for the City’s response to COVID-19. Alina is a current member of the University of Miami Citizens Advisory Board, a member of the International Women’s Forum and won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society for Public Administration in 2019. Alina received her Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Public Administration from the University of Miami and currently lives in Miami with her husband Ed and together have two adult children.
John A. Jenkins – Executive Vice President – South Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA)
John is responsible for all operations, members and initiatives for the South Florida PBA, which is currently the certified bargaining representative for 23 municipalities and represents approximately 6,500 members in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. John joined the Miami-Dade Police Department in 1996 and currently holds the rank of Police Lieutenant. He is a current member of the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police and is a current member of 100 Black Men of South Florida and 5000 Role Models. He is also a current member of the Two Hundred Club of Greater Miami, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and Latin Builder Association, Inc. John received his Bachelor’s from St. Thomas University and his Master’s at Nova Southeastern University. He resides in Miami with his wife Silvia and together have five children.
Fred E. Karlinsky – Shareholder, Co-Chair, Insurance Regulatory and Transactions Practice – Greenberg Traurig, P.A.
Fred has nearly 30 years of experience representing the interests of insurers, reinsurers and a wide variety of other insurance-related entities on their regulatory, transactional, corporate and governmental affairs matters. He is a recognized authority on national insurance regulatory and compliance issues and has taken a leadership position in many insurance trade organizations, and has led many industry-driven legislative and regulatory initiatives. In addition to his role with Greenberg Trauig, Fred has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Florida State University College of Law since 2008, where he teaches a course on Insurance Law and Risk Management. He is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator. Fred received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Miami and his Juris Doctorate from the Florida State University College of Law. He resides in Weston with his wife Autumn and two children.
Cristian LaCapra – Senior Vice President, Wealth Strategist - Northern Trust
Cristian joined Northern Trust in 2013 as a Wealth Strategist in the bank Florida headquarters of Miami. He actively represents the bank within the South Florida community, working closely with community partners on boards as well as maintaining consistent involvement within the community through volunteer events. Cristian was previously the Director of Business Development for the Miami Dolphins (2010-2013) and United Way of Miami-Dade (2007-2010). He is currently the Co-Chair of the United Way of Miami-Dade Tocqueville Society, a Board Member of Strong Girls, Inc. and a member of the University of Miami Planned Giving Advisory Board and the Cushman School Board Committee. Cristian studied Engineering at Georgia Tech, received his Bachelor’s of Science in Finance and Economics at the University of Florida and studied Italian overseas in Florence at Centro Fiorenza. He currently resides in Miami with his wife Gianni and twins Nico and Celine.
Paul Lowenthal – Chairman, Board of Directors – Camillus House
Paul is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Camillus House, one of the oldest and largest continuously operated charities in South Florida, and the largest non-profit agency that provides humanitarian services to poor and homeless people in Miami-Dade County. He is also the CEO and Managing Member of Lowenthal Family Holdings, LLC (LFH) in charge of consulting, marketing, operations and investments. Paul is a current Board Member of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Coral Gables Community Foundation, and was named Board Member of the Year of the Coral Gables Community Foundation in 2017. Paul received his Bachelor’s of Science degrees in Accounting and Political Science at Florida State University and currently lives in Coral Gables with his wife Teresa and together have three adult children.
Brandon Okpalobi – CEO & Founder – DIBIA Athletic Development & Dibia DREAM, Inc.
Brandon oversees operations of the DIBIA Athletic Development training program including camp planning and programming, marketing and sponsorship opportunities and community service. The comprehensive hybrid organization offers a rigorous blend of athletic, academic and STEM programming to drive students to academic success, promising careers and healthy lives, serving over 5,000 youth in Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas and internationally in Bermuda and Nigeria. Brandon has been recognized for his leadership and prowess for youth programming in STEM and athletic training by Legacy Miami Magazine as one of the Most Influential and Powerful Black Professionals in 2020. Brandon earned his degree from the University of Miami where he studied Computer Information Systems and walked on to the basketball team to soon become a scholarship student-athlete for the Hurricanes. He currently lives in Miami and is a brother to five siblings.
Kim Prior – Partner – Shutts & Bowen, LLP
Kim is a Partner in the Financial Services Practice Group in the Miami office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, responsible for handling regulatory, transactional, enforcement and corporate matters for domestic and international financial services firms and businesses, including banks, broker-dealers, investment advisers and private equity funds. She also advises financial institutions, technology companies and similar businesses on regulatory, licensing, corporate and compliance issues in the FinTech space. Kim is a current member of the American Bar Association Banking Law Committee, the Florida International Bankers Association General Counsel and the Florida Bar Association Business Law Section. She is also a Miami Children’s Museum Playmaker Benefactor. Kim received her Bachelor’s of Finances and Bachelor’s of Marketing from Florida State University and her Juris Doctorate from the Stetson University College of Law. She currently resides in Miami Beach with her husband Daniel and together have one child.
Romney C. Rogers – Managing Partner – Rogers, Morris & Zeigler LLP
Romney is currently a Managing Partner of the Law Firm Rogers, Morris & Zeigler LLP which was founded in 1925 and was previously an Associate Attorney from 1978-1982. He was previously the President and a member of the Board of Directors of the Broward County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section. Romney was the City Commissioner for the City of Fort Lauderdale from 2009-2018 and was Chairman of the Board of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce in 2003. He is currently on the Board of Directors for Truist Bank South Florida. Romney earned his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Rutgers University where he also played college football. He earned his J.D. from Mercer Law School where he met his wife, Candace and currently lives in Fort Lauderdale and has two adult children.
About the Orange Bowl
The Orange Bowl is a 380-member, primarily-volunteer non-profit sports organization that promotes and serves the South Florida community. With its primary mission since being created in 1935 to bring tourism to South Florida through an annual football game and events, it has also maintained a legacy of charitable contributions and community outreach. Orange Bowl community outreach efforts are comprised of four pillars: youth sports, fundraising and community events, academic programs and scholarships, and legacy gifts.
