TEXAS TECH TO PLAY IN THE 2026 COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF QUARTERFINAL AT THE CAPITAL ONE ORANGE BOWL

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – Texas Tech University has been selected to play in the 2026 College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. The Red Raiders, the No. 4 seed, will face the winner of the CFP First Round matchup between No. 5 seed Oregon and No. 12 seed James Madison, taking place in Eugene, Ore.
Texas Tech enters the Capital One Orange Bowl at 12–1 after winning the Big 12 championship and finishing No. 4 in the final College Football Playoff rankings. The Red Raiders are led by head coach Joey McGuire and are making their first appearance in the College Football Playoff and the Capital One Orange Bowl.
University of Oregon (11–1) earned the No. 5 seed and will host Sun Belt champion James Madison University (12–1), the No. 12 seed, in a CFP First Round game on December 20, with the winner advancing to face Texas Tech in South Florida.
This will mark the first CFP Quarterfinal game in Capital One Orange Bowl history. For all three potential participants—the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Oregon Ducks, and the James Madison Dukes—this College Football Playoff Quarterfinal will mark a historic first-ever appearance in the Capital One Orange Bowl.
